Meet our Panelists... Introducing Andrew Fisher!

ANDREW FISHER- Senior Writer, NBC-Universal

Andrew Fisher retired from journalism in April 2009, ending a career that began with a summer column in a weekly newspaper in Massachusetts when he was 11. In between, he worked on newspapers and in college radio, local radio, network radio, network television, cable television, and the Internet, covering news, sports, business, and religion. He was the network radio anchor of the 1988 Olympic Games in Canada and South Korea.

His honors include a WEBBY award from the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences; the gold medal of the International Radio Festival, New York; and 13 NBC Universal "Ovation" awards. His NBC Radio documentary, "The Second Rape." which dealt with the difficulty of reporting on and prosecuting sex crimes against women, won several national awards and was honored by the New York State Bar Association.

A graduate of Columbia University, he was a member of the adjunct faculty of Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism and also lectured at NYU, Rutgers, and Ramapo College.

In 1986, he was one of five NBC News employees named in a libel lawsuit won by entertainer Wayne Newton against the network for reporting Newton had mob connections. Legendary constitutional lawyer Floyd Abrams handled NBC's defense. A federal appeals court overturned the $19.2 million award in 1991, and the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear Newton's appeal.
